The circular patch says "Art-O-Mat Artist." The box is full of blocks that are just the right size to be dispensed from a recycled cigarette vending machine. The Art-O-Mat has been ker-plunking art to the masses all over the world for going on 15 years. Folks around North Carolina know something about this -- I've wanted to be a part of this for years. Inventor Clark Whittington, a Winston Salem artist had the idea, the creativity, and the gumption. The machines themselves are works of art and are placed in various vending locations in 10 countries. And then there's the 400 artists' art in the machines. Make that 401 . . . just as soon as these blocks can be painted.
