two hundred sixty-seven

"East Meets West" is the September group exhibition at the Randolph Arts Guild.  In celebration of the event the guild was going to stage a huge "Promontory Summit" complete with golden spike, steam engines, and railroad.  And then it was realized a) the guild is a non-profit; and b) Utah and trains have little to do with this exhibition.  Asheboro does have an active train line though.

"East Meets West" features students and alumni of visual arts programs from two of North Carolina's prominent universities.  These two schools are (almost) equidistant from the center of North Carolina -- which some say is Asheboro -- a fitting place to stage the Battle of the Artsy. To keep things fair the judge for the fracas is a product of one school and a long time faculty member at the other -- East Carolina and Appalachian State, respectively.  Having said that the name calling and canvas bashing will prolly be kept to a minimum.  Besides, those of you who attended ASU know that professor Gary Nemcosky is a fairly mellow dude who is an inspiring educator to all, and quite the likable guy.

The show will be a fantastic survey of North Carolina art. It will be fun to see who comprises this exhibition and to share wall space with other talent.  Two brand new paintings of mine are including in the mix (see the details shots).  The show runs September 1 -- 29 in the Sara Smith Self Gallery at the Randolph Arts Guild located at 123 Sunset Avenue in downtown Asheboro.  Join juror and artists for the free opening reception on Tuesday, September 1 from 5:30p -- 7:30p.

Working Through The Opportunities (Detail)
Now -- some folks have been asking why not have an art show featuring "East Carolina University verses "Western Carolina University?  That's because WCU is the rival to ASU and we wanted to make sure they were snubbed.

Go Mountaineers -- we got the jug.

Oh -- and neither of these paintings have anything to do with "East Meets West" theme-wise.  They are simply some of the newest creations from this Mountaineer who works hard for his time to paint.
