two hundred five

"Transitions" is up on the walls at the Durham Art Guild.  The theme prompts the careful observance and exploration of time's passing and the shifts from one moment to the other.

41 works are in the survey show.  Pam Gutlon, Owner of Outsider Art & Antiques served as Juror.  When she addressed the audience, she mentioned how she was nervous . . . and she was envisioning everyone in attendance in their underwear to calm her anxiety.  She made the rounds in the square gallery -- beautiful gallery -- and briefly discussed several works.  Then she discusses the three unrevealed award winners, but talks about four works -- my "Open & Closed" included.  Talk about a nail biter.  She commented that if my work was outsider art, it would be very popular as it is a strong example, in her professional opinion.  Then she asked if I was present.  "Right cheere."  Then she asked if I was trained, to which I replied "yes, but the creativity comes naturally."  She then remarked that she is 'seeing me' in my underwear to which I replied (while flanked by Mom & Pops) "I'm not wearing any."

Though "Open & Closed" did not win an award, the evening did rekindle my faith that there is enjoyment in exposing yourself in public.

Thanks to Katie Seiz, DAG Gallery Coordinator, DAG, Pam Gutlon, and congratulations to all the artists in the exhibition -- and of course bravo to the winners.

The group exhibition is up through March 22, 2013.  DAG is located at 120 Morris St. in downtown Durham.  www.durhamartguild.com .

More images from the evening are located on the Les III Art page via Facebook.  Go take a peek.
