A while back at the Randolph Arts Guild the wonderfully creative Molly Lithgo lead a class on clay vessel carving. She threw earthenware red clay into these vases. The students in the class learned how to use various clay tools to carve. Molly and her partner Jim Rientjes then glazed and fired the pieces.
There was an extra one for me to tinker with.
So I cut, poked, carved, smoothed, and pushed this red clay around. The shiny blue glaze covers the devil's skin. The tortured and scarred tera-cotta flesh still pokes through.
